Let's support "Beautiful Carnage" , the music project started by Chris Dowd, Jeff Buckley's best friend, musician, singer and songwriter from Los Angeles.
In the past months, there were so many news about Jeff Buckley's Legacy. There is an upcoming film, someone is selling out the Telecaster he used to play both in "Grace" album and tour.
Now we have 49 days to co-produce Chris Dowd's moment of inspiration rushed into songs.
He started writing an album, " I am giving a record into people's hands" - to use his words- they only have to make it happen".
The project is displayed on the web site kick-starter, all we need to do is open the link http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chrisdowdproject/beautiful-carnage , watching at the video, enjoy his playing and have a careful look on the right side of the page, where everything is fully explained to donate.Every amount is gonna pay off, just check it out.And spread the word.
The album will include a studio version of " What will you say" with Matt Johnson on drums and Mick Grondahl on bass guitar as well as a " And I kissed you" , a rock ballad in dropped G tuning and a couple more tracks with Jeff Buckley' s former band members. Many other friends and musicians Jeff had respect and admiration for are going to play in this album, like bassist Darryl Jennifer of the legendary "Bad Brains" and Stephen Perkins from "Janes Addiction" ( who already plays drums on "Long Live the Chief") as well as many other people that Chris Dowd has worked with for many years.
" I am managing to do things with people who really were around Jeff when he was in New York , there were some musicians he liked a lot, I asked them to join the project and they are gonna be in the album, I want to pay tribute to him, and I would be a lier if I'd say I am not getting anyone in , it is my way to say "Thank you" .When you loose someone it is so upsetting, there are no words to explain it. Then I do sincerely think creating something is a way to say " Thank you".
He has done so much for me, and we only have this moment right now.
Making this record is so important to me.I want to say to the Universe I love this person, it is a statement.I want to talk about the journey we shared as human beings on this earth. This is most important to me now" says Chris.
They starting being close friends when they lived together before Jeff moved to New York , they shared a flat in Los Angeles for two years "When I quit Fishbone, Jeff was the only one who was always there for me […] and when he passed away someone told me -Chris, you'll get over it- , but you never get over it".
When Jeff wrote "Dream Brother" Chris didn't even have a clue the song was about him, "I've learnt it reading about the song on Wikipedia, you know. The thing is he was worried about me but, me myself I am here now, and he is not".
